Wat Phra Si Maha Uma Devi - Indian Temple

Home of Parvati, Durga and Kali…

During your stay in Bankok, if you wander into the business district on Silom Road, be sure to check out the Maha Devi Temple (also known as the Wat Kaek, or "Indian Temple"). This is a small but vibrant Indian cultural enclave dedicated to Uma Devi, the divine consort of Lord Shiva.

Uma Devi takes on three appearances: Parvati (Goddess of Prudence and Pity), Durga (Goddess of War) and Kali (The Destroyer of Evil). Discover this fascinating structure, built in the second half of the 19th century by Indian immigrants in the Dravidian architectural style. It is a world of incense and flower petals, a place of worship and contemplation.
